What’s In Store For Stardew Valley

Hi everyone,

First, a quick reminder:

A few weeks ago I announced that I’ll be self-publishing Stardew Valley on most platforms (everywhere except Nintendo Switch and mobile). Today, that transition takes effect.

So, as of today, for PC, Mac, Linux, XBox One, Playstation 4, and PS Vita, if you have any questions, comments, or business inquiries, please send them directly to me. I now bear 100% of the responsibility for these platforms!

Now, I’d like to tell you guys what I’m up to, and what’s in store for the future of Stardew Valley.

As many of you know, I’ve been working on a new game for a while. I haven’t revealed anything about it, except that it takes place in the same universe as Stardew Valley. I’ve been deliberately secretive about it because I want to be able to work on it without any pressure for the time being. I also want to make sure the concept is fully realized before revealing anything, because once it’s out there, I’m going to have to fully commit to it. I’m a pretty cautious person when it comes to this sort of thing.

Now, I believe I’ve said in the past that I wanted to devote all my time to the new game, and I might not work on any new Stardew Valley content. Well, that’s not exactly true. While there have been times in the past where I felt burnt out, and maybe even said that I wanted to move on, I always find myself coming back to Stardew Valley. For one, I keep getting new ideas for ways to improve and expand upon the game. This world is so full of potential, I could probably work on it for the rest of my life. There’s also such a wonderful community surrounding the game… and I like making you guys happy. I’m extremely grateful to all of you for supporting my work and creating this wonderful Stardew Valley community.  I wouldn’t be where I am today without you. And knowing that there’s still tons of people out there who love the game and would be extremely happy to get new content motivates me to keep working.

In short, what I’m saying is that I am going to keep making new content for Stardew Valley. In fact, I’ve recently put my other game on the back-burner and have been in the process of creating a new free content update.

French, Korean, Italian, and Turkish translations are also underway, though they may not come out until early next year.

I’m aware that saying “I’m working on new content” might be aggravating to those on consoles who don’t have the 1.3 update yet… Or to those on Switch who are experiencing frame rate issues in the new patch. I also haven’t forgotten about the PS Vita users, some of whom have reported bugs to me. It’s very important to me that I make good on my promises… the idea of expanding further while there are still lingering issues and unmet promises disturbs me, and isn’t something I want to be doing.

So I want to make it clear that these issues are my top priority, and if there’s ever anything I can do to help these things happen more quickly, it takes precedence over any new content… however, I don’t do those ports myself, they are done by Sickhead Games, so there’s nothing I can personally do to have an effect on that process, beyond setting it into motion (Sickhead Games does great work, by the way…  and they are making very fast progress on the console updates). I am also doing what I can to see the issues with Switch multiplayer get fixed, but that is also not something I can directly accomplish. So when I do work on new content, it’s only when I have no current avenue for addressing these higher priority issues.

So, currently I’m working on a new Stardew Valley update, and my new game is on hold for the time being. The difficult thing is that I want to work on both… I want to keep working on Stardew Valley and I also want to work on my new game. But I don’t have enough time to accomplish my goals with both things simultaneously. For a while, I considered being finished with Stardew Valley altogether. But that would make me (and many others) sad. So I’ve decided that I’m going to form a team to help me work on future Stardew Valley content. The update I’m working on right now (1.4) will be another solo update, but after that I hope to have a team in place that I can work closely with on future content.

This is going to be a big change for me… I’ve always worked alone, and working with a team is a whole new ballgame. However, just as I did with Stardew Valley originally, I’m just gonna go for it, and have faith that I can rise to the occasion and make it work. My hope is that the new team will help take some of the workload off me, so I have enough breathing room to divide my time between my new game and Stardew Valley. I still plan on having a very active role in the future of Stardew Valley, and the originator of all major Stardew Valley decisions and content. And there are many aspects of development which I’ll never be okay with handing over to another, like music or writing. But when it comes to programming, fixing bugs, administrative/business work, or even pixel art… I think I’d be okay with having some help. I’ll post more about this later.

This is a lot of new info, so here’s a summary:

  • My top priority is to see the 1.3 multiplayer update come to Xbox One & Playstation 4, and for issues with the Switch patch to be addressed.
  • I am working on a new game, but I’ve put it on hold in order to create a new Stardew Valley update (1.4).
  • French, Korean, Italian, and Turkish translations are in the works, though they may not come out until early next year.
  • I plan on forming a team to help me work on new Stardew Valley content (beyond 1.4)
  • Once the team is in place, I’ll divide my time between Stardew Valley and my new game.
  • I am now self-publishing on all platforms except Nintendo Switch and mobile.

Thanks so much for reading and have a great weekend

  • Russell McBain

Really great to hear this! Will you be posting jobs for the team you’re building?

    • I will soon, yeah.

      • gnysek

I’m awaiting for requirements then! 🙂

        • Terra Groenewold

Same here, though as a Canadian just finishing her degree, I have a feeling I won’t make the cut :'(
Oh well, looking forward to see where this company goes.

          • gnysek

You still have bigger chance then, as I’m in +8 hours timezone! 😀

  • Cyan Tifical

It’s a bold step to go from solo to working in a team, but it’s probably the right move with more than one project on hand, especially when the first one has grown to be an amazing game! Any updates on the Android SDV?

    • I’m not sure when the Android update will come out… My guess is probably some time in Q1 2019

      • Could you give us at least preorder? like it was on ios. please….

        • Josh Rain

Why bother? Someone already illegally ported the iOS version to android using an iOS wrapper. Its already on android, just need to google hard for it.

          • Pano Pano

Do you have any link to that illegal android version?Should tthis website be banned or something?

          • Lourince Adarayan

            link lmao

      • Is it on srting android divies or on all

      • Pano Pano

Why is it taking so long?(I don’t know anything about ports from version to version…)

        • andystar22

          beacause its hard 😉

        • Lk Kolz

Because console trash noobs always wait long for everything? How is this new, pleb? Get a real gaming machine like pc and you get it on day one. Simple.

  • <3

  • Albaraa Alghamdi

I’d say Concernedape is that you get a team of devs for the new secret game while you focus 100% for stardewvalley until it’s launched so when its launched the community gets satisfied and he can secretly Focus on the other game while nobody knows. Hope This Helps Alot Because i always love this dev

    • I want to keep making my new game alone, since I’m used to creating a game that way, and it worked so well for Stardew Valley. Maybe if my new game gets as popular as Stardew Valley, I’ll eventually ask people for help updating that too!

  • Levy Atã

I love indie devs because of stuff like this. You want to make the community happy at all costs. You have made a great job all this years. Its finally the time you can rest a bit friend

  • Purple Fairy

I hope some of this new content is also for singleplayer. I love this game so much, so thank you for all the hard work and the free updates.

    • So far everything I’ve done for the new update will apply to both singleplayer and multiplayer. And that’s my plan going forward, too!

  • Thank you for all your hard work.

  • You are one awesome guy with a creative vision and the talent to use it.

Thank you for Stardew Valley and that you are still willing to make it bigger and bigger.

  • TheCreativeWelshman

So will there be more antics with Marnie and the mayor?

  • Annabelle Grace

I’m so excited for you! Keep up the great work!

  • Jenny Morrill

As a console player, the idea of 1.4 makes me happier than anything. Thank you 🙂

  • Daniel Oliveira

Is Chucklefish the publisher of the game also meaning that the 1.4 update comes to the Switch? Or not? Thank you for this masterpiece, ConcernedApe!

    • New updates will come to all platforms (unless somehow technically impossible).

      • Daniel Oliveira

  • Christina Pinto

Thank you so much for creating and continuing to develop stardew valley . I am very excited for the new game your working on and any new updates to stardew valley. You have done a fantastic job and deserve to work on everything at your own pace, we are only human we need breaks. Just know that the loyal fans will wait for anything u are working on . 🙂

  • Shay

this might weird to say but i’m glad you will be working with a team, i was was worried for you shouldering all this by yourself. Thanks for all your hard work.

  • absolute role model.

  • I just want to say thank you for all your hard work.

  • corleonis88

Thank you for the amazing work. Your game alone made me want to buy a second nintendo switch so I can marry my boyfriend in stardew valley and have a farm together. I´ll be watching for the new new content and new game.

  • FuzzyBubbles

I was a little bummed when I thought about 1.3 being the last bit of new content for Stardew so it’s really exciting to see you motivated to continue adding to it. I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to properly get across just how important this game is to me and how many great memories It has provided, but regardless, no matter how long the game’s life ends up being from here on out, I’ll be supporting whatever you’re doing.

Thank you for all that you do.

  • Mad props for going about this in just the best possible way, choosing your priorities wisley, staying honest and building hype all at the same time. I’m ecstatic to lose more days in SV and am just as excited to take a peek into this new venture.

  • Ryorama

Is it possible that you can make a 3DS port of the game?

    • gnysek

It may be not worth time, and 3DS may not have enough computing power without huuuuge improvements to engine. In fact it’s not an easy platform and requires lot of optimisations to make games working. It’s a moment, when you comes from high-level programming languages to the lowest ones (so from C# to C/Assembler).

      • Béla Kurzenhauser

3DS has high-enough computing to run Stardew Valley. It can run Shovel Knight and other games more graphically intensive.

        • gnysek

I wasn’t talking about graphical intensivity. Computing concerns all operations, even those offscreen and not only about graphics. SV is build of several layers of graphics, and computes a lot of things – AI, tilesets on farm, items laying on ground, crafting, equipment.

I also didn’t said it’s not possible, just that it may require to much optimization/changes, to be worth to make it. Players may not be satisfied with it, or it would take too much time.

I worked on games for several platforms, and sometimes we didn’t make a port on some device not because it’ wasn’t possible, but because you’ve got a feeling it will just not work as you want it. As I developer I understand why 3DS isn’t one of platform on which SV is released (it would earn enough money, but sometimes money isn’t the most important thing – it’s what players want to get, and you know it won’t feel like they want, so you’re not making it).

  • Xenosous

    So uhhhhhhh….. Where’s Android?

    • Christian Beach

He’s not in charge of that port.

      • Xenosous

I’m aware of that. But he would still know when the port would be available.

  • TheCreativeWelshman

I think he can put Arabic language support but I’m guessing you also want the game to come out in the MENA market as well right? In which case that won’t be possible because of the inclusion of an ingame religion that does not feature the Abrahamic God, that the folks down in that part of the world don’t really hold with magic at all.

  • Thanks so much for all your hard work! I’d really like to see an improvement to the routines of spouses and children. That part of the game feels very unfinished to me. My spouse spends most of the day walking around the house starting at furniture. When I first had children I expected that they would eventually join Penny’s school.

Excited to hear there will be more new content coming!

    • Bradley Dimond

I second this! The family aspect of the game certainly feels a bit neglectable once I’ve hit 12 hearts. In a sense, the relationship feels “done” far before my farm feels “done”. Extending this a bit would help make the late game feel more diverse.

    • Daniel

I absolutely love the idea of the children going to Penny’s school!!!!

    • Kimberley

I second this aswell it would be great if your children aged and helped take care of the farm in the future it would make the long game so much better

    • Danielle Mitskuni

I also agree with this! Perhaps a few more heart events after marriage as well! And perhaps an official school building is a community upgrade that Robin can build for you!

  • Juan Pablo Vazquez Guardati

Thank you so much for your constant dedication and hard work! It makes me very excited to know that there is more content coming, as well as a whole new game set in the same universe!
I know you’re not technically publishing the Switch version anymore, but I’d like to adress a maybe-glitch I’ve had since 1.2, where the person I married tends to reverse back to 11 hearts after reaching 13. It’s ultimately not a big deal but I wanted to point it out hehe.
Anyway, thank you as always for your hard work! But please don’t overwork yourself :’3

  • Elisha Shaddock

Whatever direction you go I’m behind you 100%!

  • This game means the world to me, I have 300+ hours in the game and I’ve been playing over the span of 2 years now. Still playing either in co-op, checking out the super lategame stuff, or messing around with mods. Abigail is easily my favorite fictional character of all time and I’ve been drawing her ever since I first played. Thank you Concerned Ape! You are too good to us.

  • Jose Rivera

Any plans on creating at least local multi-player for the Vita? Like between the two systems? My wife and I have Stardew on PC, Ps4, and while I purchased it for the Vita, I bought my wife a Vita as well so that she/we can enjoy your game on the go. Would be great if we could play in the go… Together. Please. Lol

    • Marcus

      Get Switches.

    • Ikuto

I think I only have one question. Why in the world did you purchase a vita? Seriously, it would have been a much better investment to purchase 2 Switches instead.

    • Christian Beach

Like others have said, if you want to play games on the go, you would’ve been much better off with 2 Switches.

      • Jose Rivera

Some of us can’t just go out and purchase two Switch units. Not to mention the Vita is a great piece of hardware. Mine was just a request, that’s all. I know it’s not gonna happen.

  • theplayingdead

You, sir, are amazing! AAA developers should look up to you. Thank you for everything you have done in Stardew Valley! Keep doing what you think is right no matter what they say.

  • Marcus

What is the reasoning behind Switch not being published by you? It makes me feel concerned that the Switch verizon will get relegated to a that of a unloved step-child.

    • Dhiox

The Switch hardware is a bit unique, he provably decided it would be better handled by more experienced publishers. The Switch is still the second most popular platform for the game, I doubt it’s gonna get ignored any time soon.

    • andystar22

because its a NINTENDOOOOOOOOOOOOO system idk

    • powernova911

It makes me wish that it was published by Nintendo themselves xP

  • Jake Lamb

So does this multiplayer update including splitscreen for consoles? Or?

  • BlueDavrial

You should definitely try and include some of the top modders in that team

    • Dhiox

Gane development is a whole different ballpark from modding. Modders are great, but they’d need a bit more than that to qualify for a professional game development position.

  • Techdude 594

Hell yes, more future content updates! Can’t wait to see what 1.4 has in store for the future.

  • Christopher N Neetz

First time commenting. Thank you Stardew Valley, it is a treasure and I own it for PC and Switch. I grew up playing a lot of the same games as you did, and I have a lot of appreciation to the dedication you have had to this game, as it has a life of it’s own. I also understand why you have been so reluctant to hire people when you have worked on this yourself. I wish you luck with your journey with co-creation, because it is truly a wonderful thing. Looking forward to all the wonderful things to come.

  • Jio Butler

You are such a precious soul. Thankyou for all you have done. Good luck with your future endeavors, I can’t wait to see what you make next!

  • Wendy

Thank you for the update! I love Stardew valley so much I’ve bought it for PC, switch, and now mostly play it on mobile. Each play through u have been focusing on different aspects and there’s still so much more! Thank you again for making such an awesome game and for being so transparent with your fans.

  • ultimate games

Will ps vita get 1.3 and 1.4?

  • Great! Good luck on your new goals.

  • Weggie25

I don’t know if you know, but the Vita version is still broken, especially in the desert skull cavern. Do you have any plans of at least rectifying that? Keep up the good work

  • James McNeill

You need to make the price higher, you are giving us such an incredible amount of content for less than $20 CDN!
Raise the price, especially if your team is getting larger! Thanks for everything you’ve done so far and have a great winter break! (Take a break at some point 🙂

    • You must be rich… Not everyone can pay whatever price you have in mind, mainly children. Ever thought of that? Or are you one of those people who thinks that everything should be relative to your life conditions?

      • andystar22

Medieval fantasy they probably just want the best for the game and think its a great game

  • Phillip

I wouldn’t mind if you start releasing these free content updates as paid expansions instead.

    • Janna Enthusiast 1.0M

HELL NO! Get that pay-to-play DLC shit out of here. ConcernedApe has a planned strategy that keeps the community playing and helps bring new players in.

When developers put content behind paywalls, it splits up the community. Paid DLC is bullshit, period. If you want to support the developer in more ways, than that’s fine. Go ahead and donate, buy extra copies for friends, and/or buy future games and so forth.

  • MasterKade

Thank you, and please take all the time you need. <3

  • Ikuto

You truly are an inspiration for those of us who want to be game developers, thank you so much for you hard work and dedication!

    • Tim Junge

Yes and no. I feel overwhelmed of all the stuff he did for the game and I don’t really think I’ll ever be able to catch up on that ugh

  • All the best!

  • Ben Los

Best news I’ve heard all week! Thank you, Ape!

  • Denny Sumarna

Best news!! I always love every new content for stardew valley and that’s is very true, the world is wonderful , full of potential and many things to be discovered! i don’t want to stop playing stardew valley because stardew valley is my favorite game of all time. I hope i can play the new content soon. 🙂 thanks for your hard work and I will always support you even if the update is paid dlc.

  • L33t Squirrel

Dances in place with delight. Concerned Ape, you are made of Win. I’m this close to trying to finish up writing a SDV fic series, but if more content comes out, well, who am I to refuse the opportunity to expand it further? 🙂

Thank you SO MUCH not only for creating this game, but continuing to work on it. It helped drag me out of a bad spot in life, and after deciding to give writing a shot after encountering Elliott and seeing someone in the exact same spot, I might have found my true career path in life. Further, take your time on your sequel; I am giddy to explore more of the SDV universe, but I also respect and support taking the time and materials to DO IT RIGHT. Throws confetti and glitter.

  • mick thomas

Thank you :). Do you think it’s possible to have couch co-op in Stardew valley?

  • Thank you so much for always working so hard and keeping us updated! I understand that the PS Vita will not be getting the multiplayer option, but I was wondering if you could include the new story aspects for the Vita? I love playing SDV on the vita (own SDV on every single playform!) and I would really like to be able to enjoy the new story contents like the night market on it 🙂 That being said, thank you again for creating such an amazing game and community!

    • Bill Williams

I love playing it on the Vita and hope to see new content in the future.

  • Gaming Central Bases and More

What i would like to see is that kids could eventually grow up to help you on the farm.

  • Ethan Goddard

Thanks ConcernedApe <3 Can't wait to see what you have in store for both projects! Remember to rest when needed and keep it fun!

  • Dhiox

He can’t do that. If he utters even the slightest detail, it’ll make the headlines of every gaming news site on the internet, be trending all over reddit and YouTube, with everyone frantically making overblown expectations of what it will be. This is for the best, he doesn’t need crowd funding to make the game, so it makes complete sense to keep it under wraps at least until he has a fairly solid game engine, and more or less cemented visuals and audio.

  • Elodie

It might sound a little silly but Stardew helped me go through many bad times in the past, I love this game beyond measure. I know it’s hard to let other people work on your baby, but if you pick the right persons, it should only help it grow faster! It’s good to hear that you’re taking it easy and slow, rushing things never helped anyone anyways. By the way if you ever need help with the French localization (even though I’m sure you already have it covered) for future updates, I’d be glad to help!

  • yes … a french version 😉 Champagne …

  • Devilena

I’m really thankful for someone that came up with idea of making this game! You’re a true hero for me because this game makes me feel relaxed when everything in my life is coming down the hill… Thank you so much and my only question is could you in future add some more recipe food like cabbage rolls? (psst there is a vegeterian recipe too :3)

  • SouL Prisoner

    Ty fro the continued updates.

  • Heather Briana

Good luck on finding yourself a team. That alone is a daunting task. We stand by, and thank you for all of your hard work. I’m very excited to see your new stuff for 2019!!

  • Stephan Koch

Great News!! Many Tnx. for working further on new contend for Stardew Valley. One of my most playing Games on Xbox One and Playstation 4, simply a great game at all 🙂

  • Brekkoran

    Best of luck to you!

  • Core111

I really hope you have been thinking about paid expansions for stardew. I am certain you are going to hit a point of diminishing returns if you haven’t already. As a fan I’m very thankful that you keep supporting the game I just hope you won’t lose passion for the game because the work on it holds little monetary value at this point.

  • kC

This made my day. I own Stardew on PC, Xbox, and now Switch. What I would love in one of these updates is the ability to transfer a save between systems. I don’t know if that is even possible but it’s my wish. Well, that plus new content. Thanks again!

  • Galo Egas

You’re an amazing developer and Stardew Valley is simply an outstanding game. I’m a Harvet Moon fan but I can say with confidence that Stardew Valley has surpassed HM’s legacy. Keep up the good work! And congrats.

Also, know that this community is not only glad thst you give us new and amazing content, but we’re a very supportive community and we want you as a Dev to be successful so we can keep enjoying this amazing game and maybe new ones in the future.

With that said I’ll be more than happy to get new content for the game as paid DLCs in the future. Expansions to the main story, new areas to explore, fish species, animals, crops, etc. Paid DLCs that will help support you as a dev and with great quality of course as the free content we have been getting so far.

  • As a programmer, this was a joy to read. One can really feel the passion you have for this game just by reading this. Keep doing what you love man, best of luck! The community appreciates it 🙂

  • Okami Issho

Love to hear you still feeling so passionate about Stardew Valley!
I can only imagine how much pressure it’s gotta be to take full responsibility for so many aspects of a project.
Just make sure you’re not stretching yourself too thin, and grant yourself a break if its needed.
I got nothing but huge respect for your approach, and attitude towards your fans though, and hope everything you’re hoping to achieve works out 🙂

  • Abandon Window

Appreciate you so much, dude. Thank you, and I hope you find some time to relax this holiday season. You deserve it!

  • Huzzah!

  • Cortney N Jordan Crosby

We love you @ConcernedApe and we the people will support you no matter what, i am glad to see top priority is coming Xbox and PS4 with the update. I am totally excited for your new game too. You are a Great Game creator.

I know its a long shot but im just starting Game Development my self as a new guy and still learning. Self taught though as i cannot afford school. How ever if you need someone for pretty much anything I would even volunteer my time to Learn from you and help :). Thanks

You are a Big inspiration with your Content and your Drive to take care of your audience for your games. I seriously cannot wait to see whats in store next 🙂

  • Darren Hupke

I’d love to have the ability to transfer my PS4 save to Vita. I know about the multiplayer update only coming to PS4 and not Vita, but while they both are on the same version, I’d like to continue my LONG established game on the go.

Any chance for that to happen?

  • Nermin T

I just gotta say I’ve found a few bugs on the switch version in muliplayer but nothing that is game breaking. Everything is so fun and endearing and, honestly, I’m looking forward to finding more of them.

  • Do you have any plans to tweak Journey of the Prairie King for us trophy/achievement hunters trying to do the no death run?

  • Mahmud Bayramov

pls answer my quession when is coming Android Version and pre order

  • · · ·

It’s the right call, and I think you should’ve formed a small team already after the game went ballistic.

  • DanCooper_92

This is the most exciting news I’ve heard in a long time! Looking forward to the new update and your new game.

  • Hi, I have an suggestion for controllers. The right stick should default to a direction control for your character, and right click to switch to mouse mode whenever needed. Being able to control the direction your character is facing will allow for easier and accurate farmng and fighting. Please take it under consideration. I’ve been trying to get this idea by since console launch.

  • Brandon

I wish you the best and thanks for all the effort you have and are currently putting in the game.

  • Leaf_Shade

If every developer were like you, the movie industry would be in a lot of trouble, as games would be the primary form of entertainment universally.

Any plans to, in any form release some sort of physical edition on Switch?

Limited Run, Super Rare, your own Limited Edition like Undertale, commercial release?

  • Cedric Raynald Desforges

Can you make getting all 8 rare crows do something?

And Overall balance changes? For me i enjoy stardew valley as a planning game. But the game is un-balance in some areas, like a Artisan expert is clearly the best choice. Some Crops selling price is over or under tuned. Something to keep track of gifts? A bomber note book from zelda majora’s mask would work. There is a good mod i saw on nexusmods that has been working on balance.

  • Janna Enthusiast 1.0M

    Incredible Game. Incredible Developer. 10/10!

Only one yr earlier I made a decision to leave my past job and I am extremely thrilled currently…. I started earning a living over the internet, for business entity I located over the internet, for a number of hour on daily basis, and I generate way more than I did on my office job… previous thirty days was 9,000 US dollars… The best thing about this is the extra time I obtained for my little kids…and that the only requirement for this task is basic typing and also having access to broadband… I am able to devote quality time with my relatives and friends and look after my kids and also going on family vacation with them very consistently. Don’t ignore this chance and try to act quick. Take a look, what it’s about… https://goo2url.com/hovZM

        Shut up, bot

  • Maxwell Tanner

That’s great news if you can actually keep the updates somewhat timely. If you go the Terraria/Starbound route and take two years to update the game from 1.5 to 1.5.001 then it’s better to just pull the plug and let modders take over. There’s nothing more annoying about digital games than having to reinstall all your mods or wait for them to be updated whenever a developer decides to release an update that was announced years ago.

That’s a non-issue for me since I have the game on GOG but most people have it on Steam, and Steam updates your game whether you want to or not.

  • Ketura

Yay! I cant wait for the next update and the new game. Take your time though

  • Justin Butler (Justincase)

Please please please expand the marriage and family aspects of the game in the next update!

  • Marcus

    Eric, dude!
This post made me so excited. It only seems like yesterday it was released on Steam! Still my favorite video game ever made, all this time later, and I still revisit it with each update.

One thing that made me fall in love with it so much was how everyone in the community has a story! I love how there are cut scenes not just for the ’12 eligible’, but every character feels like they exist in the world. Very rare for me to care about NPC characters in games, but for some reason SDV sucks me into everything, whether it’s rooting for Pierre vs Joja, Linus the outcast and more!

If you ever decide to make a ‘sequel’ or anything, don’t push for the gimmicks of ‘3d’ and lose the character and story-focus like what happened with Harvest Moon in the pursuit of ‘grinding’. I’d love to see more of the game world you envision.

  • Jackmacdiamond

just a question in 1.4 will that summit area actually be in the game

  • Lionhearte

Awesome news to hear. Stardew Valley really is an amazing gem you’ve created, so there’s nothing wrong with developing it even more. The potential for it is amazing and I can’t wait to see what’s next – even if it means your new game takes a longer to come out. Stardew Valley is up there with some of the other greats in the indie game world, so keep at it if you feel you must!

  • Kitty

Thank you so much for creating such amazing content! Best of luck to you and please take care of yourself ConcernedApe//

  • No

You’re such a hardworking amazing guy and it’s crazy cool that you are getting a team to help you! you deserve it

  • Lacey Rose

Congratulations on going solo! That’s so exciting!!

I’m so glad to hear that the 1.3 update for consoles is being worked on and taking some priority! I’ve been avoiding a lot of community stuff since 1.3 came out so it wouldn’t get spoiled for me with all the new content in it lol Can’t wait to see what you do with everything!

A short heads-up from me. I truely like this game – it’s the one game in recent years which was able to catch my attention for longer: it has a nice gameplay with a good variety of things, it is lovingly and detailed drawn, written and engineered so that one can find yet another nice detail every day. And an advantage for me is also: it’s easy to play with RL in mind: easy to stop and continue another time with the daily chunk size being “just right” for my taste – and it won’t matter too much when you don’t recall what you were initially up to when you return – things can be done in any order and be re-done latest the following game year. Thanks for all the fun!

  • UnicornsOnLSD

It’s great to see you keeping up with every platform, even the Vita!

  • Skeltinon

Hello there! I just wanted to say that I would love to at least help a little with making Stardew Valley update. Have some ideas in mind, also I could help translate game to Polish language (if it’s planned in the future of course). Thank You for continous developing of this fantastic game 🙂

  • Aj Black

I have put over 2000 hours into stardew valley, i believe there is alot of love put into it. I have a few ideas id love to share for improvements ( i dont think many are needed)

    1. The ability to strafe while planting/harvesting/watering would be awesome

    2. Giving the axe/pickaxe the same area of effect as the hoe, maybe limit it to 3×3 at iridium level, for faster mining/foraging… also would be awesome

    3. Make the basement available after the 1st house upgrade, or make the kid room a separate upgrade

    4. This ones just a side thought but i watch DangerouslyFunny’s stardew videos alot and he has a tractor mod thats super fun looking.

Thanks for any time you may have given this humble fan =)

    • Aj Black

Also if you ever need a tester… im free lol

  • Alex Kangaroo

Any thoughts one making the Switch Multiplayer Local Co-Op. I understand that not every feature will be there, but a large part of Switch user base really like local co-op games to play.

  • Endre Nagy

We need more singleplayer contest. Maybe more skill level, animals, more customization, new secret places, crops, buildings, monsters etc. Still 10/10

  • Chen Jing

Hi, ConcernedApe, thanks for the awesome game, would 1.3 offline content be available for the PS vita? And also will 1.4 be available as well?

  • iMageYou

I have some of the best memories of my childhood from just playing Harvest Moon on the N64 back in the day. I loved everything about it and when I found out about Stardew Valley, I was blown away. What a miracle to the gaming industry and I am so thankful that I found this game. It gives me that same feeling of joy and relaxation and it takes it way beyond what Natsume did with Harvest Moon (though bless them, because Harvest Moon was amazing). If you ever need any story line ideas or conversation dialogues for characters, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I will happily spend time to add to the story for free.

  • Amanda Cross

Thank you so much. I love Stardew Valley so I’m thrilled that it’s going to keep getting new content. That news has really brightened my day. I’m looking forward to your new game, too. I’m excited to see what it’ll be whenever you’re ready to show it off.

  • Alex

12/16/2018 Just tried out the multiplayer with my fiance and noticed something I’ve never seen in single player but it seems like it’s a common issue. When the day shifts to evening/night there is a strange lighting issue where there’s a square of normal daylight but then the edges of the screen are still daytime light. I’ve seen that this is a potential one-off bug but with the multiplayer drop I’m not sure if it’s a new bug to pop up on Switch or not. I cannot seem to fix it as it has happened a few in game days in a row, resetting or not. Hopefully it gets patched asap because it is annoying. Not game breaking, we’re still loving the multiplayer, but annoying.

Cheers for multiplayer though, it’s a dream come true! <3

  • Afifah Rahman

YAYY!! I just want to say I appreciate your hard work and it says a lot about you as a person by giving us free updates. It is amazing that you’ve built the Stardew Valley world and has not decided to think of the game as “finished”. I look forward to multiplayer on ios (maybe? I don’t expect it anytime soon). For what’s its worth, I’ll be cheering for you over here. It’s commendable that you’re working hard on this game for us, but do take care of yourself and take rests as well.

  • Malin Burkette

Thank you for all your hard work! You’re dedication to Stardew Valley, and it’s community, is admirable and we greatly appreciate you.

Keep up the great work and know that we are all behind you!

  • Saregato

I would love to join you’r dev team if you’ll give me the chance!

Thank you so much for your wonderful creations, ConcernedApe. Please remember to look after yourself first, above all. You have made millions of people’s lives better with Stardew- just keep following your heart and doing what makes you happy as a developer.

  • Eilonwy74

It’s probably been asked, but will there be a 1.3 update for Vita? I use my Vita the most out of everything because I can play that while I work from home and while I watch TV. It would be a dream to have 1.3 for the Vita as well as PS4!

  • davoker

Ape, you are an example, Chucklefish should learn a little, that we have abandoned with Starbound xD

  • Hey i really love your hard work and i think it’s going to be a huge sensation here in Indonesia. If you need Indonesian localization i can help you via crowdin or any platform you want!

  • daniii

The updates are going to reach switch and mobile right? D:

  • Ziy Arakka

This is pretty much the best news I’ve heard all year.

  • Daan Knobbout

Just wanted to mention here, Stardew Valley is the first game ever that I ”Double dipped” in (PC / Switch).
Having fond memories of older Harvest Moon titles from my childhood, I honestly never expected a solo indie dev to totally nail the same nostalgic feeling whilst expanding on the formula.

Excited for anything you pump out in the future, cheers and good luck!

P.S. ever played games from the Rune Factory series? Just curious

  • Sentry

If you need a graphics designer, let me know and I’ll share my portfolio with you.

My SO and I have been playing SDV together even before multiplayer came out, and her an I are both majoring at UCF in digital studio arts. She’s more so into drawing people, I’m more into game graphics and scenes. I’ve been doing graphic design ever since I was 6 years old. Back when I used to re-texture Super Mario Bros. Being able to work on a game like SDV with others would be like a dream to me.

  • oz

will the update be coming to the switch as soon as it releases, later (like the 1.3) or not at all (since ChuckleFish is responsible for switch, might be a dumb question but I don’t know how the difference in publishers between switch and everywhere else works)

  • Brandon T.

Do you have a small idea of when the console updates will be rolling out?

  • Lord George Reginald Bailywick

I appreciate you helping work on the Xbox One multiplayer. If this is released in a timely manner, I have already put aside $$ to purchase your next game. A developer that delivers on his promises is one that deserves my patronage. Thank you for your attention and your wonderful game.

  • Lord George Reginald Bailywick

It’s funny to me that an indie developer has such a more rabid, and accepting, patient fanbase than AAA developers. These mega-developers (Looking at you Electronic Arts) could learn a thing or two from you. You even make better content than they do. Thank you.

  • commentator

There will be a lot of overhead to work with when you create a team. There might be times starting out when you feel like the work you need to put into getting everything running smoothly together is more than the work you’re actually doing on the games, but don’t let it disenharten you. Just remember that once you know everyone involved is on par you’ll have that much more time to work on your other projects with confidence.
    I’m rooting for you.

  • Alex Amaral

Hi! First I like to tell you I and my son love to play Stardew Valley. Could you tell me if can I play on coop mode in between a PC with Windows 10 and the another player on Xbox One?

      does xbox have coop now?

      • Alex Amaral

        Unfortunately no :/

  • Rafael de Castro

Man, here in Brazil, me and my friends call Stardew the game of Happiness. If you’re sad, play Stardew, if you’re lonely play Stardew, if you’re a little nostalgic, we play Stardew. The music, the story, E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G has a piece of magic, wonder and the most awesome “Good Feeling” we ever had on a game.
We talk and create fanfics, discuss about background stories, the world around “the world” of Stardew. And once we knew about your history as developer, designing the game and its content we understand why it is so special and “touch” so deeply in our hearts.

You’re responsible for take away stress, sadness and a lot of negative things in our lifes, so a simply thank you will never be enough.
But thank you, forever thank you man! You saved lives :`)

    Best regards! p/

  • Joël Jacquet

“Sickhead Games does great work, by the way” & “they are making very fast progress on the console updates”
Is that supposed to be a joke ?
A poorly optimised port ridden of crashes / glitches is DEFINITELY NOT “Great Work” and SIX MONTHS with NO fix/update is NOT “very fast progress”.

  • Nut Nuttapoom

There will be some updates for PS VITA port, won’t it?
I’m looking foward to it !!

  • Tony Ng

could we get more marriage candidates for 2.0 😀 also any idea when 1.4 will come out

    • andystar22

      clint maybe?

  • AE

This is really awesome of you. With you being on your own and now with a team working on SV I really hope you create content or something that will warrant another purchase like a dlc etc for compensation. I would definitely pay more then the original price of the game to enjoy extra content and compensate for your awesome work. Also, I’m curious, do you at least get a cut from the Mobile game purchases? I’d like to think making that purchase helps the creator in some way.

  • Hannah Sweet

This is amazing news!! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Stardew Valley. Thank you so much for all that you do 🙂

  • Hannah Sweet

This is amazing news!! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Stardew Valley. Thank you so much for all that you do 🙂
If there just so happens to be a job opening for an artist I will definitely be on that.

  • Hoshea Julian Santoso

    Whoah, That’s why I couldn’t find SDV on the old Publisher’s listings…
Glad to hear this game is now independent!

  • missblue

You are by far the most amazing game developer I’ve ever seen, I wish you the best of luck!!! Stardew valley is my absolute favorite game, and I can really feel the love you put into it!

  • Ibaa

Amazing work, and keep it up. If you ever think about doing Arabic translation, I’d love to help you out. I’ve worked in translation before (English to Arabic) and I love every bit of Stardew Valley being a fan of Harvest Moon growing up… have it on PC and Switch and love every minute of it.

  • Laynee Schwartz

So as for the future Stardew Valley, are you planning to do major or smaller updates? So, is there a future plan/idea to add new farms, areas, pets etc or are you feeling good with the game as a whole and just plan on adding little bits and pieces of new content every now and again? Either way looking forward to whatever work you plan on doing in the future!

  • I think that when your work grow, there comes a time to start gathering people to help you out. It’s just necessary, the right thing to do. As long as you use your “feeling” and “intuition” to select them, everything will keep growing and developing much easier. It’s a new step, a new phase, and with that new results! Congratulations on your choices.

  • Josh Rain

Welp, I’m just going to sit here and play the illegal android port until the actual developers are done fidgiting with the iOS.

  • Christopher Couture

I would *love* to work on the game core. I might have to start working on modding again to get my name back out there. I’ve had a list of changes I’ve wanted to make to the game’s code in order to implement official modding support. Honestly I would be willing to work on the project pro bono in the evenings if a full time team member wasn’t possible.

  • Joslyn Lay

I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for changing my life! I’ve been playing SDV since it came out. When it came out, I was at a very stressful time in my life, being a K-12 band/music teacher. Life was hard, but SDV was my escape and happy place. If I was at work, even just the music was a destresser for me. Since then, Life has got a lot better and I still am enjoying the game with updates and mods. I’ve put so many hours into this game and I just want you to know how much it has changed my life for the better and has helped me through some rough spots. 🙂

  • garish glow

You are such an amazing person, this is great news!

Also I have a suggestion. One thing we could use is more recipes. More fruits and veggies, maybe be able to make more beverages (such as tea)
I’d also like more choices in meat. I mean fish/octopus/squid meat is ok and all (honestly, I hate seafood lol) but…can we at least have some chicken and recipes to go with it? The chicken can be sold at Pierre’s.

    • andystar22

the thing is then there has to be murder in the game

  • bottie

Need an Android version though :> my play time will increase by 500% when that happens. Awesome job thus far!

  • Pano Pano

Hello “developer of my most favourite game”!! I really appreciate your work but one question:Why does the android version take such a long time?

  • Victor Jiao

Will there be an application process to join the team?

Though I understand it probably makes more sense for you to ask some of your closer / closest developer friends

  • luanadorea

I love the game! I’ve been playing on my ipad and enjoying every minute. I wish we could do something more with the special rocks we get on the mine, like making jewelry!

    • andystar22

not just the rings you can craft right like expensive jewelry that is worth alot and is a great gift
and then we find out clint secretly loves jewlery hehehe

  • Lovely313

    Just a question
When is stardew valley coming to android on mobile?

  • Alex Preble

I’m wondering when the 1.3 update will come for Xbox I’m not looking for exact dates just a general month I’m excited for it and am really wanting to play with a friend

  • Andy Wiltshire

Add magic! This game already has most of my favorite elements, magic items/weapons or spells is just about the only thing missing. I’ve always loved the idea of going mining armed with a staff or wand that fires some type of elemental projectile. Anyway just thought I’d try to get my two cents out there, wonderful game Ape! Thanks for all your hard work!

    • andystar22

magic needs to be a thing….. looks at return scepter
but i see what you mean it would a another layer to the already layered game

  • Ellise Veena Tolentino

Today is my firstime playing stardew on ps vita using my cousin’s vita. Huhu i hope android will be release already.

  • When will we get the multiplayer update for Stardew Valley PS4? Me and All my friends on there are looking forward to it and we’ve been waiting for a really long time. I always check the blog to see if there is or when the update will come to PS4. Me and my friends are wanting to do a YouTube series on it as well. I will always will be support Stardew Valley still just like Harvest Moon and Rune Factory. I really love this game.

  • Jesse Powers

I love SDV. I’ve bought it on 4 different platforms because You’ve crafted such an engaging and pleasant world and I want to support you every chance I get. Now to hear you’re still going to make content even after it’s already such a solid game, really makes me happy.

  • Tim Valentine

All good news. Thanks for supporting Linux.

  • Triple_ Saltyyy

Just a notice, when I walk in the crop patch in my garden sometimes my game will glitch and it will then freeze for a few seconds and teleport me to a place in the direction I’m going. I’m on switch

    • andystar22

switch is buggy for no reason sometimes

  • Minato

I would love to see a official implementation of the new follower mod. maybe where we can give them weapons and equipment.

  • Hey i love this game but I only have the xb1 version and i have two questions do you know when xb1 will get multiplayer and will it have splitscreen thank you for your time

    • andystar22

      probably both eventualy

  • andystar22

honestly though stardew valley will never end i think you should flush out events like the strange 63 61 70 73 75 6c 65 and the stone 6f 77 6c sry if it seems like im being rude or pushy but stardew valley is one of my favorite games so i hope i turns out well (tho what you have done in the past makes it seem like your game is in good hands)

    73 6f 20 6d 61 6e 79 20 66 61 6e 20 54 48 45 4f 52 59 53 20 69 20 68 6f 70 65 20 77 65 20 63 61 6e 20 65 6d 62 61 72 61 73 73 20 6c 65 77 69 73 20 73 6f 6d 65 20 6d 6f 72 65 20 3b 29

  • Dylan Mitchell

This post is great! It’s pretty much what I’ve been thinking you should do ConcernedApe. Directing the devolopment of your game could be really fun and it might open new doors for other games idea you might have but don’t have the time to execucte. You have a great creative mind, I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us!

  • Kimberley

I feel I have been waiting patiently for sooooo long for multiplayer. I purchased it for pc, nintendo switch and ps4 but my main gaming system is ps4 and i didnt want to ruin it for myself so I have been waiting for it to come out on this device. I am excited that it is closing in but a rough month estimate would give me so much more hope to look forward to it. Could you give us an idea of how many more months we should have to wait for this?

  • cat-a-flame

Did you considered to release the game on 3DS? 🙂 That would be really neat, and a little bit retro!

  • Harley

So I was thinking about something. We have the mill for turning wheat into flour and beets into sugar but why not a building for turning certain vegetables and coconuts into oil? We need oil for cooking so why cant w craft it in some way?

  • Mike Jirges

This is awesome, just take care of yourself and don’t get burnt out! The game, as it is now, is still amazing!

  • Martin mcluckie ツ

Really liking the look of this game. Cant wait till it comes out on android

  • Ryan Mikos

Great to hear that Stardew Valley will continue getting updates, though I am honestly also very curious about this new game. Stardew Valley though is a wonderful de-stresser for me, and if it keeps getting fed content updates I feel like I can keep replaying it for eternity. Can’t wait to see what you’ll put in next!

  • chris mcdougall

Do you have a idea of when the multiplayer update will come to ps4 me and my friends are all big fans and can not wait to all play together

  • Abdelmajid Hamouti

Hey I am a huge fan of your work, and I would like to ask if you can make it that when your child grows up they can help around the farm also it would be great if you added carrots as well. continue the good work, your fan from Morocco.

  • Developer assistant

Thanks, Eric Baron for the beautiful game of Star valley, I am very pleased that the game will be further and further revivals then will also be interesting to see a new game. I wish you to find a good and worthy team!!!

  • Kaitlyn Owens

Your work is wonderful and inspirational. Ever since I started playing I have started raising real chickens and I plant a little garden every year. Your game has taught me a lot about time management and in the winter when everything is depressing I love to play this game because the seasons change so fast and it’s always exciting to see spring come. Winter is always my least favorite season and I’m excited to see the Night Market come to xbox one! I love the owl statues ! Also I think it’s an awesome idea all around. Always wanted to see more boats 🙂 much love to you for spreading such happiness to people. I have the utmost respect for your character and hold stardew valley close to my heart.

  • David Heffner

I’ve purchased the game like 4 days ago but I’ve already managed 50 hours, its so addicting and such a fun game. I love all the time that you’re putting into the game and the time you you spend discussing with your community and keeping in contact with us is something that all developers should be aspiring to do. Though you are a solo dev this game has gotten so big and I feel a small team would definitely help you bring new content to this game so you can focus a little more energy to your new game (which I will definately be buying btw!). Anyways I just feel I needed to tell you how good of a game you’ve made and the community you’ve created loves you for it. Thank you for all your hard work!

  • Joseph Reilly

    DLC when? I’ll buy

  • Katie

Hi Mr. ConcernedApe, I just wanted you to know (If you ever read this) that Stardew Valley gets me through tough times, especially when I am stressed out from work all day. Thank you so much for creating this game!! I can just come home, get on my computer and relax while fishing at the lake, going mining for rocks and stuff, or go visit the towns people and just have a happy interaction with them. I really love designing the farm/house too, and I love the cute music and graphic style, it makes me really happy after a long day in the office. I have a job in complaints/customer service, so I get yelled at all day 8hrs a day 5 days a week. For like 2 yrs now lol. But when I play your game, it all just goes away, and I can feel free. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making such a perfect game. I can’t believe I only had to pay like $15 for it too. If I knew how good it would be, I would pay so much more. I look forward to what you have in store for us. I’m sure it’ll be amazing 🙂 I hope maybe something with the children or the spouse .. They seem to just chill in the house and don’t really have much to do. Thank you again and have a nice day!

  • hacker4real

i get that the ps vita won’t get multiplayer but will it get the new solo content update ????

  • Liva Bulmeistare

Would like some update for kids and their usage would be nice that they get some use ^^

  • Corporal jack

Do you have a somewhat time to the release of the multiplayer update on console?

  • Lindsay Rebecca Jakl

Thank you for Stardew Valley! I’d love if children could grow up, fall in love and get married themselves, probably aged to mid 20’s-early 30’s and than stop ageing! Plus if you could have more than one 2 children, like up to six or 12 children, and have Robin build more additions or additional 2nd upgradable house that’d be great! And adding a school in the community center or the abandoned Jojamart would be great with penny as the teacher. Maybe some more trees like juniper and cedar, and crops. With juniper trees you could get juniper berries and keg them with potatoes to make gin. And agave for tequila. Plus any or all these hard liquors!

  • Riptide432

I am a player of Stardew Valley and I got the game with the PlayStation the second it came out, but only by my friend showing me how amazing the game really is other than just a farming game, and by also telling me on how ConcernedApe just did this by himself. I came to love this game but so did my friend too. but the fact that there isn’t multiplayer yet puts a toll on my gameplay as I want to complete it with my friend. so as I am asking from a players point of view is there maybe a date put to the 1.3 update for console so I and many other fans can mark on there calendar and really look forwards to
    Thank you

  • roxane gauthier

Thank you for your great work! Stardew Valley is amazing <3

  • Tiapriestess

I’m not sure if you’re still actively monitoring the suggestions forum that Chucklefish has had going, but the ones I put up here would really make the console version of Stardew Valley feel a lot more fluid and less stressful/limiting.

I haven’t played since 2017 simply because of the frustrating farm setup time and adventuring limitations. Bite sized chunks being all you could have made the game feel a bit less appealing. I’d love to get back into it and finish off my trophies. 🙂

  • Suzanne DeFratis

Great game! When is the PS4 getting the update? Been waiting and waiting. Thank you.

  • Aʏʊʍɨ Eʀǟ

You said you were creating a new game, I really can’t wait until it’s finished!! Goodluck!!

  • TAGYoureIt

Awesome… we’d love to collaborate and bring into the Indie Esports League!!! Can we talk?

  • James Powers

Wish there were more map layouts

  • dadin89

I have an Xbox One. I bought copper, but I can not drop it. I can not drag it off my screen or use any button to drop it. My pick is not strong enough to mine and I need copper bars to upgrade. In Xbox One how can I drop it.

  • Vas Vadum

I only read the first bit, I’m happy this game is moved away from Chucklefish. After the admin of the starbound discord had me banned for disagreeing with her wanting to give porn to minors and then she had me banned from Chucklefish’s discord too, I was quite annoyed with Chucklefish and didn’t want any of their games anymore.

I thought I replied to this post before but I don’t remember now. xD It got linked in my discord by someone today.
